Since 2019, Ahold Delhaize has been partnering with Kickstart AI, an independent non-profit initiative, to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the Netherlands. Kickstart AI’s mission is to bring together the front-runners of AI to collaborate and build practical AI solutions that create a long lasting impact on society. Together with their founding partners, Ahold Delhaize, ING, KLM, and NS they want to serve as a catalyst of AI adoption in the Netherlands by developing initiatives to empower the Dutch AI ecosystem.

Ahold Delhaize actively participates in these challenges, for example by dedicating efforts to utilize data to prevent food insecurity and apply reinforcement learning to further reduce food waste during sessions with Kickstart AI. Ahold Delhaize and its local brands continue to contribute to the Kickstart AI foundation, dedicated to strengthening the Dutch data science/ AI community with the aim to tackle real-world challenges with artificial intelligence (AI).
